Up for bids is this Digital DECMate VT278 Terminal. This is the same
as a VT100 or VT102, except that it features a diskette interface and 32k
of ram. It was intended for word processing, and operation as a terminal.
It is in excellent, working condition.
It was manufactured March of 1983.
The screen is nice and bright. (The brightness is actually software
adjustable!)
All the keys work, and the keyboard is very very clean. The coiled cable
is not overstretched, and has a 1/4" jack on the end just like an Apple Lisa!
(Which happens to be on the same table as the terminal, and like it
says on its screen, is not for sale :) )
There is some yellowing on the cabinet, but not much.
There was a property label on the front of the machine which I removed.
There is still some label residue on the machine. A hard scrubbing would
probably take it off, but it is not super noticeable.
All 5 rubber feet on the main unit are in place, as are the 4 on the
keyboard.
The original power cord and an original serial cable are included!

After turning the terminal on, its ready to use. There is a simple baud rate
setup selection (again, software controlled).
Here I've connected it to my linux machine and opened Pine.
A view from the side. The cabinet is nice and clean. The screen looks weird because of my camera.
From the top. The cover for the expansion slots is in good shape and included.
The setup guide label.
A label for how to set the system up with the floppy disk drives or hard disk.
The expansion slots.
A close shot of the screen. There is no burn in, and it is good focus.
A view of the whole screen. It is nice and bright and sized properly.
The expansion slots cover. I removed the small scuff mark with some windex
after I took the picture,
but the batteries in my camera were dead. If you really want another pic
of the cover I can take one and email it.
Here is a view of the keyboard. All the keys work just as they should. As you can see, the board is very clean.
The DecMate logo and the little bit of label residue.
This date is written on the bottom of the keyboard. I know it will come off, but I decided to leave it, it's kinda neat!
From what I have gathered, this terminal was used at a large corporation
for a short time,
then donated to a college, where it sat unused for many years.
Don't miss your chance to own one of these vintage terminals!
You'll be hard pressed to find an original unit in this nice of shape.
Unlike other sellers I do not paint the cabinet, I only clean it with everyday
household cleaners.
Shipping will be $35 anywhere in the continental US. I will ship to other places, but please email me before you bid.
